Set up a community recycling centre

If you want to plunge in at the deep end and set up a community recycling centre, consult your colleagues, Governors PTA and pupils, then find a suitable place for the recycling facilities. Contact your local and County Council for guidance and ask whether you will be able to receive weight credits for materials that you hope to collect.

Let your local community and businesses know what you are doing and ask for their support. Not only will you make everyone more aware of the value of recycling, you will also raise plenty of extra funds for your school.

This scheme encourages children to get involved in green projects. Their website is full of ideas and information and well worth visiting .

Recycling to helpmother charities, here and abroad.
There are many organisations and charities that use recycling in a positive way. Some raise money to make a difference. Others have a more, far reaching effect, and that's what I like about Jole Rider (pronounced Jolly Rider).

They recycle bikes and books and send them to change lives in Africa. Lots of happy faces there. The prisoners and youngsters who are known to Wiltshire's Criminal Justice Board look pleased to help the bikes on their way, knowing that they are helping to change lives in Africa.

Many opticians will have boxes for unwanted spectacles and these get sent to Africa with trained eye specialists via Vision Aid Overseas . What a life changing experience for those people, who find that they can see properly, perhaps for the first time in their lives.

Another way that you might like to help people in developing countries, by simply recycling money that you have made from recycling! Kiva enables you to lend small amounts to individuals or groups who are struggling to improve their lives. Have a look at their website. It's quite inspirational. (as are all the other schemes).
